Sweat Out the Old, Soak In the New!

This January 1, come to the spa to recover from your drunken debauchery the previous night!

Century Spa
Noon until whenever.
DON'T WEAR A TOWEL. (Unless you have a boner.) Be brave, nobody will judge you. Let's try to make Century more naked in 2015!

  1. Yes, down with the waist towel tyranny. I was representing the last time I was at Century. Hard to do it alone though ;-P

    1. I do it alone all the time. Nobody cares. And it just may be enough to encourage someone else to do the same.

  2. no shit! I am so done with guys and their towels at century. We need to see cock.

  3. On a past visit to Century the lady at the front desk only gave me one towel. I didn't notice until I unrolled it after getting undressed at my locker so I left it in my locker to keep it clean and dry to clean up for the trip home and just walked around without one. Nobody noticed, commented or cared since I am over 50 and chunky. I tend to just throw it over my shoulders or carry it in one hand anyway so no big deal. Got the $12 Groupon using the HURRY20 promo code. Hope to make it New Years Day.

    1. didn't understand why everyone would wrap up at century.
traditionally korean spa is not a place to wrap up, towels are used after shower or use when inside steam or sauna since it might bee too hot to sit on and for sanitary purposes.

    2. because some are afraid to show it flaccid or soft but the truth is they would open the towel when they have something to show off...

  4. gsg, at these meetups, does everyone come up to you & pay their respects like the godfather? it must look pretty strange to others at the spa who are not there for the meet up! wish i could come but will be away. :(

    1. Lol no. Most don't even know who I am. I'll introduce myself though if people describe themselves or send me a photo of themselves.

  5. Will be there and will leave my towel in the locker. The towel dance at Century is ridiculous.

  6. I haven't been to Century, although I got the Groupon or whatever. I understand where everyone's coming from re the towel situation as described. I also have a guess as to what's going on, based on the descriptions I've read of there being a large crowd of WeHo type gym bunnies, etc, who go to Century. They are probably treating the place as a sort of "live Grindr" with pools and sauna. In other words, you can see their torso, but they choose who sees everything else. I agree that's not the right attitude for a KSpa, but if that's what they've turned the place into, they are not going to be impressed by other guys going towelless, especially guys they wouldn't respond to on Grindr!. At any rate, it's not that their shy, I bet.

I happened on a funny site called "Douchebags of Grindr." Maybe reading some of the posts there led me to the above conclusion.

I might go to Century and use that Groupon Jan. 1, but I wonder if I should wait for a day that would be less crowded...

    1. I've had several people tell me that they would like to go nude there, but they are too shy to be the only one.

I, on the other hand, don't care if I'm the only one.

    2. I don't get all the fuss over towels at Century. When I have been there guys are either wearing them around their waist or carrying it in one hand. I carry. I also hang it up to dry on the railing while I am in the tea soak or jacuzzi or wear it on my shoulders in the regular steam or eucalyptus steam after rinsing off in the showers between stops. I may sit on it if I am cooling off in the plastic chairs. I am not the ONLY ONE nude and you won't be either. Be brave Little Buckaroo

  7. Interesting idea but I think that it is more likely that the uptight Americans are raised to cover up now (unless posting selfies on the internet). Take a look at some of the old articles about "the way it used to be" when YMCA's had nude swimming pools, college swim classes were nude, gyms had gender specific wet areas (Sports Connection, Holiday Spa, Ballys) and gym class had the big shower room with no partitions. Over the 30 years I have lived in LA I have seen most of these things disappear. Unisex steam rooms and saunas that require a swimsuit replaced the gender specific nude facilities in the locker rooms under the guise of being cheaper to operate one instead of two (basic math for reducing expenses and a reduction in services keeps membership prices down or increases profit). Visit a more traditional K Spa like KLG, Natura or even Wi Spa and you will see much more nudity. At KLG you have to walk down the stairs nude because the lockers are upstairs and the small towels are downstairs in the wet area. Usually the only guys covering up at a K Spa are the Americans or the noisy Russians/Armenians that violate all the rules about nudity, quiet, etc....Koreans are much more comfortable with nudity as communal bathing is a family tradition in the culture. There is plenty of nudity at Century but if you want more you can wear your towel over your shoulder or leave it in your locker or just hang it up to dry on the railing by the jacuzzi and hot tea soak.
I love Douchebags of Grindr !

    1. Yeah Douchebags of Grindr makes me glad I'm out of the "hookup" scene now. But some of the douchiest stuff on Douchebags of Grindr are the comments, from guys who don't show themselves but might criticize a bit of tummy on a photo of a guy in otherwise great shape. One poster even offers cosmetic surgery tips over and over ("Botox, chin lift," etc). I also wanted to give a cyber-slap to one "Queer critical theory" guy who copied his lecture notes into the comments every time a Grindr profile had "masc only" or "no fems."

Back to "no towel day" at Century: the thing about wearing your big towel is, isn't it sopping wet after an hour or so? Does Century give TWO big towels? if so, that's the problem. By giving two big towels, they're encouraging guys to wear one around the spa. When you know you've only got the one big towel, you're more likely to leave it int he locker for when you leave, I think. But if Century only gives one big towel, I would guess guys are bringing their own towel to dry off when they leave?

    2. Century usually gives two big towels but as I posted above I once found I only had one large towel. Since I was already undressed I just left it in my locker and went without. Nobody cared. My friend was "shocked" that I did that, yet he is the kind who wears flip flops and a towel at Century. Yes, the towel does get soaked and hanging it up on the railing while soaking doesn't dry it out much nor does taking it into the dry sauna or those chilly tile rooms in the hallway. It will air dry a bit on the patio if you are cooling down outside. Century needs to save on water and laundry and switch to the small towels that Wi Spa, Natura, KLG and other K Spas provide.

  15. gsg, how about a "trip report"? So those of us who weren't in town to make it can live vicariously. if you're not up to it, perhaps on of the other attendees can do it? it would be great to hear how it went down!

    1. It was crowded! At times the jacuzzi looked like a giant man soup!

The steam room seemed to be where all the action was, otherwise I honestly didn't see much going on.

I got to meet Sauna Fiend.., nice guy, I hope to run into him again. There was one other guy there that didn't introduce himself but sent me an email later. Otherwise I had no idea who was there because of the blog.

Lots of handsome men there though. A few went towel-less. Not many though. Good for them!

    2. What time did it pick up? I left around 1 and the spa was still sparse.

    3. Probably by 2:00 it was getting pretty busy, because I remember talking to someone (Maybe Sauna Fiend) about it and noticing it was 2:00.

    4. I assume only a few young would go towel less. I've seen only a few 20-30 something who go towel less but many would show off when showering in the steam room...

    5. It was great meeting you too! Now I can say hi in the future since I know what you look like :-)

Just wanted to add a bit to what GSG reported. There was a ton of play in the steam room. Essentially a big circle jerk session towards the end of my time there. I think people were more open than usual that day, which is a nice change. Not just sexually. I noticed conversations between complete strangers!

I didn't realize the comments had been set to such a strict level. Fixed that :-)

  16. so how many 20-40 years old go towel less?

so how many regulars go towel less for the first time in a given hour?

regulars do not want to show off unless they have boners...maybe afraid to be judged?

  18. I couldn't make it to Century for my first visit to that spa on New Years. I finally went last night with a new buddy (Asian).

Got to say, love/hate Century. Beautiful spa in many ways - variety of rooms, spaces, layout. But that is not my crowd. Frankly, I like Asian men, so it's weird for me to go to a Kspa and the majority of guys are white. With my glasses off and the "official approved gym clone" look, they all blended together. And yes, almost everyone wore a towel around their waists. But I have to say, the place was jammed. I guess there was a little action going on in the steamroom, but it was creepy to me that guys sat in there, towels still wrapped around their waists, looking to the far corner where maybe a couple guys were playing.

Me and my buddy enjoyed the facilities for what they were, but the atmosphere of the place is just not one I enjoy, due to the clientele. But Century is raking it in, at least early Sunday evening.

So I used my Groupon, but doubt I'd make another trip. I won't be missed lol

  19. Wondering when will be the "part II" of this "no towel" day.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I was there 2 months ago for the first time. My first experience with the Korean spa. Towels around the waists. Almost everyone had a big cock. Only one Latino very hung guy played with his verga at the patio, outdoor. Everybody pretended that they don't see it. His friend sucked him off. Nobody cares...crazy
